I've been absent from socials for a while...integrating and planning for new things to come.

The most recent full moon energy seems to have brought with it a need to reflect and redirect any approaches, relationships or offerings that are no longer in alignment with our hearts.

I am still digesting and being nourished by the words of Marianne Williamson from weeks ago. Truly, there were so many gems. But this one, from A Course in Miracles, is sticking with me daily.

'You can either have a grievance or a miracle. 
You cannot have both'

Powerful food for thought.

So we can either hold resentment and judgements about the world we find ourselves in, and remain stuck in a world that keeps gifting us more grievances...OR we can choose to drop the resentments, to forgive ourselves and one another, and be gifted spontaneous healings and a life that feels in flow.

I believe that this is the real work we are doing here. To move beyond the impermanent, 3D grievances (that our nervous systems love to feed) and step into the 5D understanding that we are the Universe having a human experience. Our thoughts create our reality. Imagination is in fact, pure consciousness.

The grievance - and all we imagine as a result of it - keeps us suffering. The release of this - and all that we imagine without this grievance - lifts us up.

Inner peace lies in this quote for me.

In my conscious pause this week I have been gifted some truly love-infused experiences. In the words I've read, in the conversations I've had - and last night was no exception.

Last night, I had the great honour of hearing the potent and open-hearted Marianne Williamson speak at our beautiful Elder Hall in Adelaide - surrounded by cherished friends and a whole audience of love-inspired people.

The mesmerising and articulate way Marianne weaves a 'love lens' into her teachings and stories is something to behold. Her presence and humility is palpable.

She is the very embodiment of what I view as love-infused living - a life led with body, heart and mind in harmony, and acting on the magnificent creative life force that infuses our being everyday. It is standing up to be counted. Being a force for love and peace. Taking responsibility. Holding compassion. Embodying our greatness.

What a delight to feel this rise in our world. We can learn through pain, or we can learn through joy - it's in our hands. I choose joy!

I've been moving at such lightning speed in recent weeks - creating, creating, creating...and now I have crashed a little, exhausted. I try not to do this (power on & crash) but when that energy is flowing it can be so hard to resist ✨

So I am consciously moving more slowly this week - making space for life to respond. I've softly surrendered into my deep love for reading.

And I've fallen upon pearls of wisdom - beautiful reminders for us all - that were too good not to share:

Do you remember hearing this as a child?

I remember it, clearly. And as I feel into my body, I know that every cell of my being does too.

On reflection, I'm not sure that it has done me any favours. 

Sure, I have wonderful manners and I value kindness and compassion toward others. These, in themselves, are positive traits in a world that is craving softness, acceptance and love.

And, boy do I believe passionately in a world that welcomes softness, acceptance and love. More than anything.

But in learning that 'if I can't say something nice, don't say anything at all' what I lost was understanding how to speak my truth. That my truth had a place in this world. That, in fact, my truth is as vital for my health as oats, and sunshine, and Vitamin B.

This underdeveloped capacity to acknowledge, value and express our truth is all too common in this modern world. 
I know I'm not alone in this.

And the flip side of our inability to express our truth, is a lack of capacity to acknowledge, value and honour the truth of others.

Being skilled in hearing and expressing truth - staying present to this truth - and finding the healing, the vulnerability, the power in it - this is where the magic lies. There is gold here, pure gold.

The truth is, our truth is not always 'nice' - but, in healthy spaces, all of us is welcome. The 'nice' and the 'not so nice'. This is wholeness. This is authenticity.

I'm here to help you (and me) to build the capacity to witness your own truths, to learn the skills to honour this and to compassionately share these gems with the world around us.

Why do you do what you do?

I've been reflecting recently on why I do what I do - why my specialist interest is in anything to do with stress and anxiety.

On reflection, it's funny (both funny haha and funny strange) that the primary reason I have so much knowledge and so many tools and strategies to soothe stress and anxiety is because I have a low tolerance for them both! 😂

I think for 2 reasons - 
💠  I experienced too much of it in my childhood, and
💠  I am a sensitive soul, so I feel stress and anxiety in my body quite deeply

Our greatest challenges so often become our greatest gifts. I have spent decades (and lifetimes I suspect) seeking an understanding of what stress is, why we experience it and what we can do to support ourselves.

So now I help people to stop feeling stressed and overwhelmed in their day-to-day lives and to create space to experience the fullness of life. And I love what I do 💜

I LOVE the yin + yang symbol. It represents such big and potent concepts in such divine simplicity.

This symbol reminds me to connect with the natural and continuous relationship between the darkness and the light, the conscious and the unconscious, stillness and action.

If this ancient symbol is new to you, let me share a little of its wisdom...

🌀 

The Black / the Yin represents the feminine, the darkness, the stillness, the shadow, the unconscious, the unseen, our inner world.

🌀

The White / the Yang represents the masculine, the light, the active movement forward, the conscious, the seen, the outer world

🌀

As we move around the circle (in either direction) we can observe the black slowly merging into the white, and then the white slowly merging into the black. This represents the nature of life and of our inner nature. The eternal movement from the dark times into the light, and the light times into the dark. This too will pass.

🌀

We also note a small dot of the opposite colour within each. An element of the darkness always present in the light, an element of the light always present in the dark.

Navigating the darkness with awareness, and taking RIGHT action informed by our still times in the dark.

🌀

Both stillness and action hold great importance in our lives. Action without stillness becomes random action, stillness without action keeps us stuck.

🌀

In times of stress and anxiety, the great wisdom of Yin + Yang reminds us of our need to become still to bring clarity to our truth before taking aligned and self supporting action.

The 5th crucial factor for physical, mental and emotional healing in Maté's 7As is ... Attachment.

Numerous research studies have shown over and again the profound effects a healthy attachment to an emotionally available and physically safe adult during early childhood has on positive physical and mental health outcomes throughout our lives.

Equally, not having opportunity to form healthy attachment in childhood proves a key factor in the experience of physical, mental and emotional pain later in life.

In addition to acceptance, awareness, anger and autonomy - being able to feel genuinely safe with another, and to trust someone enough to be vulnerable, exponentially increases our capacity to accept ourselves fully, to resolve trauma and to open to deep health and healing.

Secure and healthy attachment at any age gives us a place to surrender - a place to rest deeply, to repair. Something we all need and deserve 💜

I've been absent momentarily - learning and creating! I'll share more soon ... but for now let's continue with Gabor Maté's powerful '7 As of Healing'

No 4. is Autonomy. The capacity to self determine - to know self from non-self, the ability to create boundaries and make independent choices about what constitutes our lives, both physically and emotionally.

'From a simple biological perspective, it may appear that the survival of the human organism ought to be nature's ultimate goal. It would seem, however, that the existence of an autonomous, self-regulating psyche is nature's highest purpose.

Mind and spirit can survive grievous bodily injury, but time and again we see that the physical body begins to succumb when psychic integrity and freedom are jeopardised'

Enmeshment, co-dependency, the lack of clear boundary between child and parent - can all significantly impact on our ability to heal and stay well.

'Boundaries and autonomy are essential for health.  We experience life through our bodies. If we are not able to articulate our life experience, our bodies speak what our mouths and minds cannot.

Autonomy - knowing and embracing an internal centre of control, an internal reference point for identity, values, actions - has a profound impact on healing.

We all have stories of compromised boundaries. I'm still a work in progress! How well can you say 'No' or 'Yes' and mean it? xo

Deep Winter Solstice Blessings to you - here in the Southern Hemisphere. 

This is a profound moment of pause, the inertia created by the shift from the decreasing of daylight yesterday and the subtle increase in daylight tomorrow.

It is a time for deep contemplation, stillness and rest. In the 3 consecutive days, we are letting go of that which no longer serves us (June 20), pausing in the void (June 21), and reflecting on that which we do want to include in our lives as the light and warmth emerge in the Spring (June 22)

Find a quiet spot today and gently check in on how you are tracking. 
Are there parts of your path that need some redirection?
What do you need? 
What do you no longer need?
What can you give?

This reflection is a potent investment for when the cycle starts anew in spring xo

As we raise our awareness in our bodies we start to become more conscious of the sensations we feel when particular emotions rise. Anger is by far the one we avoid feeling the most. Why? 

'There is something basically anxiety-provoking about the anger experience because it co-exists with with positive feelings, with love and desire for contact....anger leads to an attacking energy that threatens attachment.' To feel negatively toward a loved one may be too much to bare.

And so it seems more comfortable to either avoid the experience of anger through repression, or to discharge against anger so as not to actually experience it in our body.

'So repression and discharge are two sides of the same coin. Both represent fear and anxiety, and thus trigger the same physiological response.'

What of healthy anger then? 

'Healthy anger is an empowerment and a relaxation. The real experience of anger is one of a surge of power going through the system along with a mobilisation to attack. There is, simultaneously, a complete disappearance of all anxiety....

'Anger does not require hostile acting out. First and foremost, it is a physiological process to be experienced. Second it has cognitive value - it provides information.

We are greatly empowered, without harming anyone, if we permit ourselves to experience the anger (sensation) and to contemplate what may have triggered it.

Depending on the circumstance, we may then choose to use words and/or action to alter the situation, or simply allow the anger to dissolve.

Healthy anger leaves the individual, not the unbridled emotion, in charge.' Gabor Maté

When referring to awareness, Gabor Maté points to reigniting a deeper sense of awareness - beyond the words that we speak or hear. An emotional intelligence that builds a fuller perception held in unconscious expressions like voice tone, body language, facial expressions - key for accessing our 'gut feelings' about a person or event.

So how and why have we lost this capacity in the first place? 

Well, as children we often 'repress our emotional intelligence (how we FEEL about something) in order to avoid an ongoing war with the crucial people in our lives, a war we cannot possibly win.'

But it is this full awareness, this well developed emotional intelligence, that empowers us to know what is right for us and what is not. We need this powerful tool to safely navigate the world on our own terms.

This also means learning to recognise the signs of stress in our bodies - particularly when our minds have missed the cue.

A pounding heart, sweating, fatigue, headaches and backaches.
Emotional tension or over-alertness, anxiety or loss of enthusiasm for life.
Unusual irritability and a tendency to overreact...

Our physical response is the best gauge of our true experience of any encounter. Learning to trust these internal perceptions - and honour them - builds our emotional competence and wires us for healing. xo

While acceptance can ultimately bring with it a sense of peace, the road to acceptance is frequently marred with resistance, struggle and pain.  We fight the truth with all our might at times.

So often, at least for me, acceptance only comes when I no longer have the strength (or patience) to resist. And surrender starts me on the road to acceptance - to acknowledge the truth of what I face about myself or the world around me.

I have learned that self compassion is so important in this phase. An energy of kindness and love softens the movement into acceptance. It allows me to open to new possibilities - to the knowledge that things could be different, better different.

As Gabor Maté writes so eloquently, 'Compassionate curiosity about the self does not mean liking everything we find out about ourselves, only that we look at ourselves with the same non-judgemental acceptance we would wish to accord anyone else who suffered or needed help'

Here are the deets:

You're just not sure of the tools that will take your stress and overwhelm away but you're willing to show up for yourself and practice what you learn.

NB: This is not a quick fix

You must be ready to let go of your old patterns, be open to new ways of being and take 10 minutes of self practice every day to consolidate the tools you learn.

I am slow today. The result of a productive and inspiring month in May combined with the first day of bleeding in a new cycle.

So I have slept in (rare for me), lit a fire and snuggled up with my nourishing porridge and my divine Love Tea @loveteaofficial 💜

I don't always get to stop on my first days of bleeding, but when I do, boy does it make a difference to the rest of my month. This potent rest allows me to process and grow from what I have experienced and faced in the previous cycle.  Rest on the slow days leads to flow, productivity and inspiration by mid month. As the mantra of the Goddess says 'In Stillness, I Amplify' ✨

This rhythm of flowing with the cycles is a way of life for me now. The cycle of the Women's Wheel is deeply entrenched in my bones. And there is so much more to share.

This morning I had the most moving experience. I sat on my yoga mat, as I do every morning, and greeted my Soul with a verbal 'Hello dear Soul, how are you today?'

What followed was this deep, old feeling that I never do anything right. I felt it in my bones. And as I met this feeling with a voice of deep kindness and compassion, one that said 'you, little girl, are more important to me than any success or failure, any right or wrong', I felt my inner child surrender into tears of deep relief. Of course those tears fell from my own eyes, and I felt so much lighter after.

Meeting our fears, our pains, the disappointments we carry with a voice of compassion is exactly where our healing lies. 💜

Can you guide your inner child to tears of relief and surrender at the pure kindness of your inner voice?  I've found it powerful. Maybe you will too. xo

Imbolc Blessings to you dear Ones 🙏 The half way point between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. A time of the slow emergence from our Winter slumber. For setting conscious intentions of the desires we would like to see fruit in this brand new cycle on the wheel.

As I emerge into this space, I have witnessed a clearer perspective of my wrestle with the 'shoulds', an internal battle with what is real and what is not. This overbearing agenda to be all things to all people.

So my Imbolc intentions for this new cycle are simple - to surrender my agenda so that my heart may open fully in it's serenity and love 🙏💜

I've been reflecting, following our wonderful Values for Life Workshop on Sunday morning, on the difference between values and needs. My intrigue led me to doing some research of my own. What I found is that a need is something that invokes an emotional reaction, either positive when a need is met or negative if not met...a value is a conscious choice to act in a certain manner to meet our own need. 

Fascinating...so our basic human needs are more or less the same (air, food, water, safety, warmth, protection etc) but our values, the way we meet those needs effectively, are unique to what has most worth to us. How our needs are met is as unique as our fingerprint☝️

We also talked on Sunday about values flying in flocks, which made me think...'of course, our values fly in flocks for the specific purpose of meeting our human need in the unique way that satisfies us' This is how identifying our values, and then planning actions around them to meet our needs in the way we value most, leads to a deeply fulfilling life! So empowering 🔥
